Turquoise bead bracelet
This Native American turquoise bead bracelet is designed and hand crafted by Jonathan Garcia of the Kewa Pueblo tribe in northern New Mexico USA. The design incorporates three rows of traditional ‘heishi’ beads and sterling silver beads flanking a central polished rectangular turquoise stone. Each heishi beads is hand cut, drilled and polished from beautiful green Kingman Arizona turquoise by Jonathan. The bracelet fastens with a sterling silver chain to fit all sizes. It measures 1.5cm in width and 18cm in length excluding the chain.
The Garcia family expertly hand craft beads in the traditional way of the Kewa Pueblo tribe. Every bead is individually hand cut, drilled and polished from natural materials such as turquoise, coral, pipestone, black jet, serpentine or shell. This once wide spread traditional skill is practised by fewer and fewer members of the tribe with each passing generation.
