Turquoise & coral bracelet
This Native American turquoise and coral bracelet is designed and hand crafted by Jonathan Garcia of the Kewa Pueblo tribe in northern New Mexico USA. The design incorporates two rows of traditional ‘heishi’ beads and sterling silver beads flanking a polished rectangular apple coral centrepiece. Each heishi beads is hand cut, drilled and polished from beautiful blue Kingman Arizona turquoise by Jonathan. The bracelet fastens with a sterling silver chain to fit all sizes. The coral centre measures 1cm x 1.5cm. The bracelet measures 16.5cm in length excluding the chain.
The Garcia family expertly hand craft beads in the traditional way of the Kewa Pueblo tribe. Every bead is individually hand cut, drilled and polished from natural materials such as turquoise, coral, pipestone, black jet, serpentine or shell. This once wide spread traditional skill is practised by fewer and fewer members of the tribe with each passing generation.
