Returning, 13 March – 31 May 2026
Rainmaker Gallery is celebrating thirty five years of championing Indigenous art in the UK. To mark this milestone we are delighted to welcome back multi-disciplinary artist, educator and peacemaker Jason Wesaw with a new solo exhibition, RETURNING.
ARTIST TALK: Saturday 21 March, 2pm – 3pm, £10
EXHIBITION OPENING: Saturday 21st March, 3pm – 5pm
In this series of minimalist oil pastel drawings, Wesaw reflects on reconnection, resilience and the healing power of return. Through subtly textured surface and carefully chosen colour, these meditative works unfold with quiet intensity.
“I’ve created a familiar and softly spoken language whose central theme is one of respect and gratitude. As we struggle to keep pace in a world that is continually moving faster, our memories often bring us back to the places, times, and people that impacted us the most. As I return to Bristol after more than three years to present this new body of work, I do so with a message about one of our most important core meanings of life: Love.” JW
Wesaw’s work is firmly rooted in the ancestral teachings of his Potawatomi relatives, recognising the importance of the rhythms in the natural world as a way of better nurturing healthy relationships.
Jason Wesaw’s artwork is held in the permanent collections of many institutions including the Eiteljorg Museum, Grand Valley State University, Raclin Murphy Museum of Art, Field Museum, Indiana State Museum, Block Museum of Art and other private, tribal and corporate collections.
RETURNING explores our connections to the natural world and reflects on how our fragile existence is so dependent on living in balance with all of creation.
